Our Curriculum

In the early childhood setting curriculum means ‘all the interactions, experiences, activities, routines and events, planned and unplanned, that occur in an environment designed to foster children’s learning and development (Te Whariki cited by Early Years Learning Framework,).

At Roberts Park ELC, we offer a child-initiated and educator-framed curriculum which is reflective of emergent curriculum. Our curriculum is actively responsive to children interests, strengths and needs in learning; it encourages children on making informing decision as well as building their sense of agency (“being able to make choices and decisions to influence events and to have an impact on one’s world.” (Early Years Learning Framework, p. 45) which is closely linked to the philosophical concepts of belonging, being and belong of the Early Years Learning Framework.

Essential components of our curriculum

  • Early Literacy (reading, writing, communicating and socialising)
  • Mathematical concepts (numeracy, patterns and algebra, measurement etc.)
  • Visual arts and performing arts
  • Music and Movement
  • Self-wellness , health and Physical Education
  • STEM
  • Community Engagement & Sustainability
  • Key concepts of diversity, social justice and equity.
